China Driving

Went driving yesterday... well.. I was on a bike, but it totally counted because I had to use my bell. Though, not nearly as impressive as a horn, it was effective! We rode against traffic... mostly just following the locals' lead. Almost got ran over by 3 buses and a taxi. Kayla guesstimated that we rode 24km... today, I cannot sit down. But it was AWESOME! it was one of the best ways to see the city. There are a few places we would have never seen had we not been on a bike (or walking). On a lazy Saturday I would love to go back and take pictures and leisurely cruise the area.

Our final destination was the Pier, it's sort of an icon for QD. In most cities in the States, the pier is where all the shops and restaurants are... here, shops and restaurants are everywhere but the pier. It was nice to walk down, see the lights of the city and check out the area at dusk/dark.

School is going well. I will be losing a child Friday. The school's population is ever changing, people moving in, people moving out. A "high transit" ... aka: break my heart. I hope I have left a good picture of the Father with my student... that the time he spent in the classroom was positive and that he made friends he'll fondly remember. I'll still miss him... we all will. But alas, I get another one on Monday. Just the way things work. Revolving door of sorts.

Home life is awesome. I bought more fish. Now I have 8 in each tank... 8 is China's "lucky" number... And I have TWO tanks of 8... double the luck baby! But that also means twice the cleaning. Instead of just changing water once a week, now it's twice a week. But at least now you can tell that I have fish in there. Before, three was just not enough... 8 is the perfect number. Though, they have started the "group thinking" thing; and they are becoming really jumpy/skidish. It's interesting. And probably more interesting that I have even noticed. Maybe I should bring more papers home to grade ;-)

i've yet to name the fish...
